10th Annual Wild Duluth Races Turn Out Great!

Friday was absolutely gorgeous and Sunday as well. Saturday,
race day, we had snow (virtual arctic tundra a couple of times in the morning), the temps never rose above 36 degrees and it was windy as heck. But, the sun came through and the winds eventually died down and it turned out to be a really nice day. Our awesome volunteers came prepared in winter clothing and built campfires to stay warm while the weather tested the mettle of our runners a little bit. I think Saturday was really the perfect day.

Thank you Wild Duluth runners for joining us for 10 years and making our day as special as we hope your day was. We started this race because we wanted to share this amazing trail (the Superior Hiking Trail) and amazing City with our running friends. We're just so happy that you all keep coming back and enjoying the trail with us. Huge thank you to our awesome volunteers! Already looking forward to Wild Duluth races V.11 and our 10th anniversary of the Harder n' Hell Half Marathon next year!

UPDATE: 50K Start and 100K Turnaround Moved to Oldenburg Point

The start for the Wild Duluth 50K and turnaround for the 100K is being moved to
View from near Oldenburg Point
Oldenburg Point Picnic Area in Jay Cooke State Park.  This has been the start/turnaround location for previous races.  Distances remain essentially the same and there are many benefits to having the start/turnaround at Oldenburg Point.  This year, uncertainty about access to the powerline section (Wild Duluth uses two of the powerline hills when starting at Chambers Grove) makes the move to Oldenburg Point necessary.  In addition, avoiding the mountain bike trails in Mission Creek will also take away the uncertainty that those trails could be closed at any moment due to weather conditions.  When starting at Oldenburg Point, we also get on the Superior Hiking Trail nearly right away and enjoy the consistency of running on the same trail the entire way to Bayfront.  It's also a beautiful route, more direct and a bit less confusing than the route from Chambers Grove.  We will miss the spectacular climb up through the pines from Chambers Grove however.

We apologize about the delay in making this announcement, but we were waiting for the permit from Jay Cooke so we could be sure this route was approved.  The course description, aid station chart and course photo tour have been updated.  Maps are now updated as well.

Reminder That the Half Marathon is Full

Just a reminder that the Half Marathon is full and that we do have a waiting list.  The waiting list is long, but a few runners have been added from the waiting list as we hear that other runners are unable to make it.  Next year we are hoping to make a few changes to allow us to increase our runner limit.  Thank you!
